Before Cross Heart Media, I was a registered Biomedical Scientist that had worked in a number of NHS hospitals across the country. I hope people read my bio and believe that they too can set crazy goals and make them happen beyond what they had ever dreamed!
A comment I had a lot when I handed my notice at the hospital was "You're so brave! I could never." In hindsight, I do reflect and think "Wow, I really did that! I really took the leap and left a career I had spent years working towards and perfecting my practice."
But being good at a job doesn't mean you're happy doing it, and I had often dreamed of running my own business. Like most people in that situation, I had no idea where to start. What kind of business would I run? How would I fund it? What if it doesn't work? What if-(you know the drill).
I met Amie in June 2023 and was introduced to a whole new world of creativity and freelancing. I began to get more and more involved in creative processes and discovered a skill set that I didn't even know that I had! Working as a BMS was an intense 24/7 job and was really taking a toll. I started to wonder whether I could also dive into the world of creativity and media?
On New Year's eve 2023, the clock struck midnight and that's when I knew I had to do something! I told Amie I was handing my notice in and that's when the idea of CHM was born!
2024 has really been about building the foundations of our business, and taking the time to learn new skills in a new, but exciting industry. I am lucky that I have such a good teacher as my business partner who has numerous years experience and upholds a high standard to everything that we do.
I love meeting with new clients and getting to know more about them and their business. I have never felt anything as powerful, and rewarding as when we sit in a room with the client and creatively brainstorm together. I truly work on every brand as if it is my own, and given my scientific background, I am pretty experienced in reading analytical numbers and understanding what they mean - complimenting the creative side with the data to back it up.
I hope to brainstorm with you soon!
I say my creative career started 10 years ago at university, but in reality, it probably started when I was a toddler, forcing my family to sit through 'performances' in the front room until they had had enough; or all of the years after when I'd tell everyone that one day they would see my name on the TV or film credits.
But aside from my living room productions, my introduction to the professional world started at uni when I co-founded award-nominated theatre company HeadsUp Productions. After writing and directing for several successful productions, including the Guinness World Record winning comedy show Newsrevue, and an original production which was selected for the prestigious National Student Drama Festival (NSDF), I then teamed up with a group of local artists to create The Carlisle Collection Fringe, a 3 day festival where we hosted 40 local acts across 4 venues.
Throughout my theatre career, I developed my video editing and design skills, having a keen interest in mixed media performances and developing marketing campaigns for all of the shows I worked on. Life was fun, and I continued to make theatre productions and work as an events manager until... the pandemic hit. Theatre becomes harder when no one is allowed to leave the house.
I started helping local businesses with their social media (which was initially a side hustle while the world got back on it's feet). However I soon found I loved being able to bring other people's stories to life, and watching their virtual audiences engage with their business became as rewarding as telling their stories on stage.
Alongside growing my freelance social media business, I also began as an Assistant Producer for award-winning animation studio, +3K. Since then I have been heavily involved in the development of their original IP, including multi-international award winning short film The Fell We Climb, and multi-award winning commercial Growing Up. I also worked as Animation Production Manager on SkyKids original show My Friend Misty, and finally got my name in those TV credits!
Cut to present day, and I continue to tell stories by bringing the heart of brands like yours to life, alongside "the idea machine" Han, and our office cat and dog.
I look forward to hearing your story!
The Boss. Keeping the team in line. Never forgets a break time.
Office pooch. Just happy to be here. Will do tricks for treats.
